DIY Homemade LIQUID Laundry Soap

A peek into my life this week.

We made laundry soap.

It was SO EASY.

I have been using this homemade laundry soap recipe for a while now. It is a fairly easy recipe, but I just don’t like having to grate the soap…I know…I’m lazy.

Then I stumbled on this homemade liquid laundry soap recipe on Pinterest, and I am sold—at least on the preparation factor.

  • 3 Tablespoons of borax
  • 3 Tablespoons of washing soda
  • 2 Tablespoons of Dawn
  • 4 cups of boiling water
  • Put it all in a gallon jug (I used an old milk carton.)
  • Once it is cooled, fill to the top with water. My friend Nancy just informed me that she omits this step, and uses 1/8 c of the concentrated mixture per load!

I told you—easy peasy, and extremely inexpensive.

I have only used it on one load of laundry, so its effectiveness it yet to be seen. I used our tea kettle to boil the water, and both my 4 year old and almost 2 year old helped me measure out the ingredients!

Speaking of the 4 and 2 year old…

…just a glimpse into our lives…and how quickly moments go from fun and sweet to, well, you saw it.

Siblings.

My favorite post from the week

“So, I will once again

Release my firm hold on that which was never mine to grasp!

AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN!

And I will live by faith not by sight!

I will LOOK to HIM!

I will TRUST in HIM!

I will find PEACE & JOY & STRENGTH in HIM!”

Have you tried to make your own laundry soap before?

Have any recipes to share? I would love to know if any of you use your own dishwasher detergent?

  1. Love the video :) So cute. Thank you for sharing!
and I’m going to give that laundry soap a try–thank you! I generally prefer powder detergent, but like you, I’m not a fan of grating soap! :/

    • It really is so easy to make, and takes mostly the same ingredients. I just added an update, with a tip from a friend of mine. Basically, she doesn’t add the extra water, and uses it as a concentrated solution! Brilliant!

  2. I’ve never made it myself because my mom always makes her own and makes extra for my sister and me! She gave each of us a huge jug as a Christmas present! haha! I do need to get a dishwasher soap recipe, I believe she might have one, I’ll have to ask.
Thanks again for your ministry! Like I mentioned on the Do Not Depart website, I mentioned your sites on my blog today. I have some thoughts running through my head and wanted to show some of my readers some links that I’ve enjoyed and have been greatly blessed by! Keep it up!

  3. I’ve never even heard of washing soda. That shows how UN-domesticated I am!!!

  4. Hahahaha I love the video! Thank you for the accurate glimpses into mommyhood. Beautiful tender moments alongside the “real” moments. I love it!
