Need a plan to make your Easter season intentionally Christ-centered AND easy?
If I am not careful, my children will grow up experiencing Easter as a sugar-filled day with fun activities and family dinner; they will get a new dress or pastel tie, a pretty basket, and probably a few cavities.
But no Jesus.
I must be incredibly intentional to give my children ample opportunities to find Jesus. Through beautiful sunsets, a scary thunderstorm, or a flittering butterfly; while we drive to t-ball practice, play in the yard, or on our way home from church; I am given these moments to tell my kids about Jesus.
I most certainly should use Easter to teach them the truth about Jesus.

Hi Katie! Thanks for sharing your ideas! We have followed your Easter 8 days & tonight’s black crayon – magic eraser activity was terrific.
Did anyone come up with ideas for Day 7 – death & the tomb? My husband suggested something that represents death, like something that smells wretched or rotting. We haven’t decided exactly what, but that is the plan for our house. He is Risen – see ya in heaven someday!

This is a great post, Katie, with wonderful ideas. Thank you for sharing! I esp love the idea of the magic eraser and crayon! For day 7, I have an idea, but it's not totally my own. You could put a big rock in the eggs, and then create a "resurrection garden" (like featured on MOB society today) and have them put their rocks in that garden…along with a few other green branches, etc. I loved the idea of how the garden ends up looking sad by the end of the day–just like how we would have felt those 3 days Jesus was in the tomb–and then put vibrant flowers in the garden on Easter morning, so the kids wake up to LIFE!

Anywhoo: LOVE EVERY SINGLE IDEA. I love the giving $$, the filling of the basket over several days and more. Maybe for Day 7 you could do something like this (I've been trying to think how to do this on IYK but don't have the right props):
If you had a big box labeled SIN and when you opened it there was another box and so on until you get to the very end there is a piece of paper that says DEATH. The idea is that SIN is much more than one act…it controls and covers you. It "multiplies". And eventually leads to death.
Maybe?

Anyway-thank you for your eight days of Easter. Love it and doing it this year with my kids.
We also are doing the Resurrection Cookies. So-we were planning on putting some of the crushed nuts from the recipe (that represent the beating of Jesus’ body) in the black egg. That way it represents what happened to him physically on the cross and also gives a visual illustration when the egg is empty on day 8. Well, that’s my suggestion. Oh and I’m sure you probably invented the cookies
I would use a chocolate egg to represent the stone that was rolled away for day 8. These are fabuous ideas!!
Just curious about the pins you made… for those of us who can’t embroider, do you have any suggestions on making pins like that for our kids to wear?
Hi Whitney! I’ve been thinking about it, but the only thing that comes to mind is puffy paint. I know it can be messy and hard to control. Sorry I’m not more helpful!

OK, had another thought. If you could find some fabric, similar to the fabric above I found at Walmart, then you could sew or glue to some backing and then make a pin out of tha!?
Thanks Katie! I also was thinking maybe just attaching a pin to a little wooden cross from the craft store (from the unfinished wooden pieces they sell cheap) and then painting it… I’m not much of a painter but I have some little paints and could probably do something

For the black egg, Maybe a seed…
It appears to be dead and dry with no life in it, but the seed has life. Jesus said this about his impending death in John 12:23-24,”The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. ” Have each person plant their seed and water it. Then they must wait, like Jesus’s disciples had to wait. (You could plant a seed that brings a geat harvest. One sunflower seed could have a flower that yields hundreds of seed, so it could “bear much fruit”).
This part is more for adults… Paul said in Gal 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live”, and in Colossians 3:3… “For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” Our old sin nature is crucified with Christ, and we are free to live as Christ’s representatives on earth, as living temples of the Holy Spirit.
When we are hidden with Christ in God, we abide in Him. And, just as the seed in the soil is hidden from view, we should hide ourselves in Christ. In John 15:5 Christ says, “Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” As we stay hidden in Christ, our lives should bear much fruit.
